DESIGN CRITERIA
  • Lateral load on top rail: 0.75 KN/M (50 lbs/ft.) Line load or 1.0 KN (225lbs) concentrated load, Whichever governs (inward and outward).
  • Vertical load on top rail: 1.5 KN/M (100 lbs/ ft) line load.
  • Loading within the guard: 0.5 kn (113 lbs) concentrated load.
  • Design is based on the Ontario building code 1997 Section 4.1.10.
  • Wind load study has not been reviewed or considered for thses shop drawings.

FRAMING

  • All framing materials to be aluminum extrusions of alloy 6063-T6 and in compliance with CAN3-S157-M83.
  • Aluminum yeild strenght: 170 Mpa (24655 psi)
  • Aluminum tensile strength: 205 Mpa (29730 psi)
  • All materials to to be undamaged in good working condition
  • Maximum post spacing to be 1070mm (42") for standard posts. thin walled posts are to have a reduced spacing to maximum 914mm (36").
  • Standard posts to be 51mm x 25mm (2"x1") with 7.95mm (0.313") thick end
  • Walls and 2.79mm (0.110") thick side walls. Thin walled posts to have 4.57mm (0.180") thick end walls and 2.54mm (0.100") thick side walls
  • All end posts to be 51mm x 51mm (2"x2") WITH 5.59mm (0.220") thick end walls and 3.18mm (0.125") thick side walls. (unless noted otherwise).
  • Glass channels to be 1.17mm (0.070") thick extruded aluminum.
  • Top rail to be two piece with a 76mm (3") wide by 57mm (2 1/4") deep to P section contructed of 2.03mm (0.080") thick extruded aluminum and a 2.95mm (0.116") thick extruded aluminum lower section.
  • Top rail to be 1070mm (42") above finished floor.

FASTENERS

  • All railing screws to be #10 high strength, stainless steel.
  • All bolt, washers and nuts shall be AISI 304 stainless steel and comply to ASTM specifications A276, A493, F594, A240
  • Fasteners to be installed as per manufacturer's instructions and in compliance with shop drawings.
  • Wedge bolts to be Simpson Wedge - all wedge anchors (stainless steel) or an approved equivalent.
  • Drop anchors to be Simpson drop in (stainless steel) or an approved equivalent.
  • Top and bottom rails to be connected to every post with twq #10 S.S. screws.
  • All corners to be tied together using an aluminum angle and two #8 stainless steel screws on each side.
  • The two top rail sections are to be connected together using rows of #10 stainless steel screws.

GLASS

  • All glass to be 6mm (1/4") tempered in compliance with CAN/CGSB-12.1-M90
